What’s funny is that it should be easy to be authentic. But we’re so used to sanitizing ourselves that it’s harder at first. The more I write, the easier it gets to “sound like me.” I’m enjoying it more, and people are responding better to it. Everybody wins!

another awesome article, Jess!!! marketing isn't my strong suit at all but ive learned a lot about over the last few months. I'm super introverted and not into any of that extrovert crap. thats why I like writing. no one sees my face or knows it's me. no one is watching and there's no pressure to fit inside the box or twerk online for a 7 second video.

Thank you for reading and sharing. Honestly, this is exactly who I wrote it for.

Introverts have an edge most people miss: we think before we speak. That depth is positioning gold. When you know exactly what you stand for, your writing carries it. No stage presence required. Glad it resonated with you.

Yeah this article hit nice! I definitely want to make my writing a bit more gritty.

You already have one, Jess, Like you talk to me. THAT is your grit.Just write like you talk and sharpen it. 🙂

Oh my God, yes!! People have no idea how many companies push for this neutral bs... And then wonder why they struggle to grow their presence online. I hate it but am forced to comply at work, no matter how much I try to explain that it is bs haha

Right. 🙌🏻

Great read, Jessica. Killing the category language hit home with me.

Now that I think of it, the creators whose brands I've loved the most, are the ones who used their own language and were completely different than anyone else offering the same.

I immediately thought they were bold and cool :)

That’s the goal. Being bold and cool 😎

I really loved this piece - thank you! "What’s your actual opinion, not the safe version you’ve been sharing?"... such a meaty question to reflect on! It's already got me jotting down ideas.

Thanks for the permission slip and the examples. It’s a needed reminder that playing small helps no one, especially our own work.

Exactly that! No more to add.

I felt like this was a drop the mic moment. And something I absolutely needed to hear!

I love this article. I have actually considered speaking everything out and then converting it to words because how I say things out loud and how I write them are different people 😂 When I work with my own clients around this topic I always look at what do they gain from speaking like everyone else and playing it safe? It usually gives a deeper look into why we are holding back what we really want to say. Thanks for this article Jess! Great perspective 🫶🏻
